Some of Wednesday night's storm damage

Winneshiek County residents affected by last Wednesday night's storm may be eligible to apply for the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program to help cover losses and damages experienced due to the severe storms.

Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation administers the program in Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek counties.

The program provides up to a maximum of $5,000 per eligible household to cover home repairs (including debris removal), temporary housing, and losses of personal property.

Households must have an income at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guideline.  For households with one person, that means gross yearly income below $24,120; for households with two people, yearly income below $32,480; for households with three people, below $40,840; for households with four people, below $49,200; and for households with five people, below $57,560.  For each additional household member add $8,360

The eligibility process established for this program is complex and the types of assistance are limited.  Affected residents who may benefit from this assistance are encouraged to contact Northeast Iowa Community Action office to determine eligibility for the assistance and if eligible to begin the application process.  For Winneshiek County, contact the Decorah office at (563) 387-4958.  Office hours vary, so please call the local office in advance to make sure of hours.

Applications will be accepted through September 6th--unless funds are all expended prior to that date.
