The Iowa Association of Community College Trustees on Thursday will honor NICC staffers Kathleen Nacos-Burds and Janet Bullerman.
Nacos-Burds will be presented the award for "Outstanding Administrator/Manager," while Bullerman will be presented the Outstanding Support Staff Award.
An educator for 30 years, Nacos-Burds served on a task force that resulted in more learning opportunities for K-12 students. She has implemented several U.S. Department of Labor grants, including a $12.6 million Bridges2Healthcare grant, a $12.9 million Iowa-Advanced Manufacturing (I-AM) grant, a $4.8 million H-18 Technical Skills Training Grant and a $2.7 million Youth CareerConnect Grant.
Bullerman retired from NICC in May after serving the College for nearly 35 years, with 30 of those years in the role of executive assistant to the president and 27 years as board secretary.
As board secretary, she has served five NICC presidents and dozens of NICC Trustees. She has a special understanding of NICC students and their needs, having earned her secretarial diploma from Area One Vocational Technical School in 1970. After graduation, the opportunity to work for her alma mater locally influenced Bullerman's decision to work at NICC.
