Decorah School Board approves open enrollment agreement with Mabel-Canton

At their Monday night meeting the Decorah Community School Board approved an open enrollment agreement with the Mabel-Canton school district. The agreement is pending legal counsel review of the document.  Consistent with current school district policy, any transportation arrangements are the responsibility on the parents of the open enrolling student.

The policy allows for Decorah resident students, grades 7-12, to open enroll at Mabel-Canton. The policy remains in place until June 30, 2019. At that time, it is anticipated a merger will be complete and that a new district will replace the North Winneshiek and Decorah districts. At that time, any open enrollment issues will need to be addressed by a newly constituted board.

The policy does not address North Winneshiek students grades K-6 because they are still part of the North Winneshiek district.
