New parking renovation will help Fridley Theatre stay dry during any heavy rains

Work on the Viking Theatre parking lot is going well. Crews have added drainage under the parking lot and downspouts to the roof, so water will drain away from the building instead of running into the building as it did in the past.

The goal is for the work on the lot to be completed by August 1st. Manager Deb Stevens should know by this fall what improvements will take place inside the theater.

"We have to do some remodeling, not sure exactly to what extent we are going to do that. We have to fix the flood damage from last year. Tile and carpet that was damaged from the flood will for sure be replaced in two theaters, along with aisle lights. We are hoping for new chairs in those theaters and new carpet in the lobby. There has been talk of adding on additional screens to the theater. That has not been decided at this time," said Stevens. "The home office will be deciding if it's better to remodel or add on."

By fall, the Viking Theatre employees should hear what improvements will be happening. Fridley Theatres has 23 locations in Iowa and Nebraska, so it can be difficult to get to the top of the list, but the flood damage means Viking Theatre should be near the top of the list.
