New Decorah fire engineer should be on staff by Labor Day

The search for a third Decorah Fire Department fire engineer is moving along nicely.

Friday is the deadline for applications for the position.  Applicants then will be asked to take an exam on Saturday, July 15th.  When those results are calculated early the next week, the city's Civil Service Board will then begin interviewing applicants.

When an offer is made to one of the applicants--probably later this month--the only delay will be on the part of the applicant, involving how much notice they need to give at their current job.

City Administrator Chad Bird says it's likely the new Fire Engineer will start work some time in August.
