The check is not only in the mail--it's been deposited in the bank.
Winneshiek County has received a payment of over $600,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to repay some of the costs the county incurred during the flooding in August and September of last year.
County Engineer Lee Bjerke says the payment closes out all the expenses incurred in the September flood. Winneshiek County is now waiting for just one more FEMA payment--a check of over $300,000 for expenses relating to flood damage along Chimney Rock Road in August.
