Decorah Parks & Recreation staffers are working to develop guidelines for a new Administrative Policy for the City of Decorah covering the private use of public space such as sidewalks or parks.
The issue has not been a big one--city officials estimate there have been only three times in the past ten years someone has approached the City of Decorah for permission to sell food or other items on public land. But Park Board members discussed the issue Wednesday and are in support of having guidelines for the use of park property.
Park board members want to ban any permits for places like the Decorah Swimming Pool, which has a concessions stand operated by Park-Rec. Otherwise they generally support the use of public property--as long as applicants comply with all city regulations.
