Wednesday AM: Still time to see airplanes from 2017 Air Race

For the teams of women flying across country as part of the 41st Annual Air Race Classic, the biggest concern along the route is the impact of bad thunderstorms.

The 47 teams of women racers were supposed to stay overnight last night in Decorah, but only 15 to 20 teams made it here Tuesday night.  The other 30 or so teams stopped in Indianapolis overnight because of concerns about heavy thunderstorms between Indiana and Decorah.

Those teams have all taken off from Indianapolis Wednesday morning--and will be coming through Decorah during the day Wednesday.  Decorah Airport manager Mike Connell says the airport has been busy this morning, with many planes landing, refueling, and taking off again.

It's probable that all of the air race teams will have come through Decorah by early afternoon.  Connell says he doesn't expect any teams to stay overnight on Wednesday--the teams have to reach Arizona by 5:00 p.m. Thursday.
