The official name of the Army Reserve Center in Decorah is the "PFC Lloyd C. Wohlford, Jr. United States Army Reserve Center."
The building was named for Lloyd Wohlford, Junior--the first Army fatality from Winneshiek County during the Vietnam war.
The building will be closed down soon, but Wohlford will not be forgotten. Winneshiek County officials are working to bring mementos of Wohlford's life from the Army Reserve Center to the Courthouse, preserving his memory. A large oak display case will find a new home somewhere in the Courthouse. It will display his Army uniform, his Decorah FFA jacket, a history of his life and other memorabilia which had been at the Army Reserve Center.
Wohlford's sister, Margaret Walter, has gotten permission from county officials to set up the display in the courthouse. An announcement will be made when the display has been completed and is ready for public viewing.
