2016 "not terribly eventful" for Decorah Police Department

Posted: Mon, Jun 19, 2017 5:56 PM

Decorah Police Chief Bill Nixon says the Decorah Police Department responded to 327 incidents in 2016 and made 211 arrests.  Nixon told city council members Monday night that these figures represent roughly a 30 percent decrease from 2015's figures.  For instance, the police department issued a total of 533 tickets in 2016--down from 672 in 2015.

Nixon pointed out that there were fewer phone calls into the Law Enforcement Center in 2016, which was probably a major cause for the decline in incidents and arrests.

Nixon says despite the decline in numbers, Decorah Police are still dealing with drug investigations.  He says heroin is beginning to make a presence in the area.  Decorah Police made 65 arrests on drug charges in 2016.
