Local trails will be ready for July's crowds of tourists

There have been a lot of events recently that have affected Winneshiek County's trail system.  There are also several construction projects either underway or about to get underway that could have an influence on the trails.  But—for the most part—the trail system should be ready for a lot of visitors this summer.

Several spots on Trout Run Trail along the Upper Iowa River had to be repaved, but that work has been completed.  The project to redo the trail at Bowstring Bridge is nearing completion.  Road construction projects at the Highways 9 and 52 intersection and at Highway 9's Gundersen bridge will impact car traffic, but have only minor impact on bike riders.  A few more improvements to the Freeport Trail are being finished.

City Parks & Recreation Director Andy Nimrod says the goal is to have everything finished and looking good for Nordic Fest and RAGBRAI.
