Relay for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society

The 2017 Relay for Life sponsored by the Winneshiek County Chapter of the American Cancer Society had good weather on Thursday evening.  Light breezes and lower humidity offset warm temperatures.
 
The event included a Survivors Lap honoring cancer survivors and a Caregivers Lap recognizing the people who supported cancer patients.
 
Relay for Life includes a luminaria ceremony at 9:00 p.m. with each luminaria bag representing a loved one lost to cancer, and a closing ceremony at 9:25 p.m. that is a celebration of all that's been accomplished in the fight against cancer--and a remembrance of those whose lives have been lost.

 

Last year's Relay for Life brought in $20,000 through a motorcycle ride. Chad Bird accepted a regional American Cancer Society award from Sara Elsbernd and Matt Schultz
