Lawn Chair Night has begun in Decorah

Posted: Wed, May 31, 2017 1:53 PM

Decorah's free summer music series kicks off Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in front of the Winneshiek County Courthouse.

The concert series, known as "Lawn Chair Night," features live music by local artists. The concerts will be held every Thursday evening from June 1st until August 22nd. All concerts will be performed on the grounds of the Winneshiek County Courthouse at 201 West Main Street unless otherwise noted. Rain location is the covered area under the Decorah Public Library.

Lawn Chair Night Organizer Lissa Blake says she is passionate about the summer music series. She has been organizing Lawn Chair Night for almost 20 years and is especially excited about this year's concert line up.

The 2017 concert series features a mix of new and familiar performers. Some noteworthy new headliners are the North Star Boys' Choir from the Twin Cities, Uptown Jazz from SE Minnesota, and Decorah local Namoli Brennet who was recently voted "Best Folk Artist in the U.S."

Blake says this year she had more groups wanting to perform than nights available, so as a result, two evenings will feature double performances.

Blake appreciates the help and support of the Decorah Street Department, the Decorah Police Department, the Decorah Public Library and the local media. Lawn Chair Night is funded by the Downtown Decorah Betterment Association.
