This year's Decorah PTO Spell-a-thon fundraiser brought in $34,459.22 towards funding special activities, events and programs in the Decorah School District.

Over 66 percent of the students in grades K-6 participated in the Spell-a-thon. Rex LaFrentz raised the most pledges--$1,000--and was awarded a $100 bill from Decorah Bank & Trust.

The students of Mrs. Courtney, Mrs. Winter and Mrs. Thompson's 5th period were awarded pizza parties from Pizza Ranch, Happy Joe's and Mabe's Pizza for raising the most funds in each of their schools during the event.  Aiden Helgerson, Aaron Busta, and Leo Runestad were the participation award winners and received gift certificates from Once Upon A Time Bookstore, Donlon Healthmart Pharmacy and Toy Jungle, and Dragonfly Books.

Every child who took the Spell-a-thon test received cheese sticks, which were delivered to the classrooms by Winneshiek County Dairy Princess Jessica Schmitt.
