The Luther College Concert Band is heading to Spain. Band members and conductor Joan deAlbuquerque will spend 12 days on the tour -- starting Tuesday and going through June 3rd. The group will perform in the Spanish cities of Getafe, Cullera, Buņol, Puerto de Santa Maria and Ubeda, with additional travel stops in Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Granada, Toledo and Cordoba.
The concert band will perform works by Leonard Bernstein, Rossano Galante, John Phillip Sousa and Joseph Turrin. The band's program also features Lynne Postudensek Hart, saxophonist and Luther adjunct faculty in music, performing Andre Waignein's "Rhapsody for Alto Saxophone."
The Luther College Concert Band, founded in 1878, is one of the oldest touring organizations in the nation and among the country's most outstanding college bands. Luther's Concert Band has toured throughout the United States, Western Europe and Japan, and has appeared at many state and national music conferences.
