Decorah Physics Students Compete in Regional and State Competition

Twenty-three DHS students competed at the regional Physics Competition at MFL High School in Monona. One of Decorah's teams was named Grand Champion. Those team members include Lindsay Elsbernd, Madelyn Jermier, Maria Lea, Ben Leschensky, Lexie Leuenberger, Henrik Marquardt, Morgan Minear, Maggie Schwarz, Kasey Thompson, and Nic Woosley. Decorah event champions included Brenna Betts and Josephine Berlage in the Challenge Problem and Maria Lea and Lindsay Elsbernd in the Toothpick Bridge.

The championship team went on to state where 155 students from 20 different high schools competed at UNI's McLeod Center. Decorah's 6th place finish was supported by respectable event performances throughout. Most notable was a 4th place finish from Henrik Marquardt and Nic Woosley in the Soda Straw Arm event.

Tim Hayes is the physics instructor at Decorah High School.
