Six Winneshiek County businesses receive Biz Booster Challenge awards

Winneshiek County Development has awarded six small businesses approximately $17,000 in grants as part of its Biz Booster Challenge program.

Awarded businesses were Discover Happy Pilates Studio of Decorah, Northeast Iowa Architectural Salvage and Skrap Work of Ridgeway, Highlandville Honey, River Root Farm of Decorah, PIVO Brewery of Calmar and Luna Valley Farm of Decorah.

Discover Happy Pilates Studio will use the grant to purchase and install vertical towers and stationary mats for the strengthening and rehabilitation of clients of all body types and abilities.

Northeast Iowa Architectural Salvage and Skrap Work will use the awarded funds to expand their business and to reach customers nationally as well as locally.

Highlandville Honey, which currently manages 115 beehives, will use the money to buy additional equipment such as beehive boxes and processing equipment.

River Root Farm plans to buy a germination chamber to increase their production and keep up with demand.

PIVO Brewery of Calmar will use the funds as part of its plans to create a 465-gallon brew house with enough initial fermenter capability to produce 33,480 gallons of beer or cider annually.

Luna Valley Farm will use the funds to help create a business serving wood-fired pizza on Friday nights, with ingredients for the pizza grown on the farm.
