Legislation affecting the supervision of child care centers has been signed into law by Governor Terry Branstad.
Decorah State Representative Michael Bergan was a sponsor of the bill, House File 534. The bill exempts Early Childhood Special Education classrooms in Iowa from needing licensing from the Department of Human Services. Bergan says early childhood classrooms in the past had been supervised by both DHS and the Department of Education. His legislation continues the oversight by the Department of Education but removed the duplication of licensing by the Department of Human Services.
