Letter to the Editor: "JC Penney was a good man"

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by John Carver of Decorah):

"The man known as J.C. Penney was in fact named "James Cash Penney Jr." His father was the senior version but JC never subscribed to "Jr."

My cousin tells the story of actually meeting him at the age of eight; at her grandfather's JC Penney store in Spencer, Iowa, some 85 years ago.  She said he was a kind and gentle person.  JC would periodically inspect his stores to ensure his principles were being met.  JC Penney remains a fine and honorable store to this date."
