When will Winneshiek County farmers be heading out into their fields to plant corn?
Iowa State Extension Corn Production Specialist Roger Elmore says Northeast Iowa farmers usually plant corn some time between April 12th and May 2nd.
This year the winter has been mild, but spring temperatures haven't warmed up until recently. Elmore says soil temperatures in Northeast Iowa are still a little bit low (around 50 degrees). Says Elmore, "We are now in the planting window for maximum yield potential, but the soil is a bit cool yet."
