Firefighters respond to kitchen fire

The Decorah Fire Department was called to the John & Tracy Hjelle home at 211 Hilltop Drive shortly before 9:30 Tuesday morning. 

Smoke was coming out of the house when firefighters arrived.  They entered through a door to the kitchen from the garage and found flames and smoke present in the kitchen area.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.  No damage estimate is available yet.

17 firefighters spent two hours on the scene.  The Decorah Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Winneshiek County Sheriff, Decorah Police Department, Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance, Winneshiek County Emergency Management and the Red Cross.
