The North Winneshiek School Board has approved a budget for next year for the school district.
Next year's tax rate will be $10.33 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, which is a decrease of $2.54 per $1,000 from this year. The levy rate dropped because the school district's assessed valuation increased from $148,502,398 this year to $152,864,149 next year, which is a 4 percent increase in the overall property values. The higher-than-expected district property valuations and a reduction in the cash reserve and management portions of the levy led to the lower tax rate.
Overall, the tax levy will generate $1,588,862 in property taxes for the school district.
Due to declining enrollment, North Winneshiek qualified for the 101 percent
budget guarantee, which produced $93,681 and is only good for one year.
