(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Liz Rog of Decorah):
"It's springtime and people of all ages are out walking, biking, and playing in our beautiful town. I wish to extend a note of gratitude this season to the thousands of people who do not spray their lawns with toxic chemicals.
Science has proven that lawn chemicals cause cancers and other illnesses, and so the tide has turned and fewer and fewer people are using them. Now our society is coming to see not-spraying as the ethical choice, protecting humans, pollinators, mammals, water, and air from these pervasive toxins.
As one who lost a young family member after his low-level exposure to these once-thought 'normal' and 'safe' lawn chemicals, I thank you for protecting the living who are here with us today."
