Decorah School District wants to hire a new Middle School Principal by the end of May

Decorah MIddle School Principal Leona Hoth's decision to retire at the end of this year will set off a brief but intense search for her successor.

School district officials this week are assembling a search committee of Middle School staffers, as well as parents and a school board member.  At the same time, a helped wanted ad is being created for the www.TeachIowa.gov managed by the Iowa Department of Education and the Board of Educational Examiners.  It is also possible the opening will be advertised in the Des Moines Register.

Decorah School Superintendent Mike Haluska tells decorahnews.com he expects to receive at least 30 resumes for the position.  Those applications would be narrowed to in-person interviews with probably five candidates.  They would be invited to Decorah for day-long interviews, tours of Decorah Middle School and meetings with various groups.

Haluska says if all goes well, a new MIddle School principal will be selected before the end of May and will be on staff some time in June, depending upon their commitments to their current school district.
