The emerald ash borer (EAB) has been found In Fayette County in a city-owned ash tree in Oelwein.  Insect specimens taken have been confirmed as EAB by a federal identifier.

Iowa now has 45 counties in which EAB has been found--including Winneshiek County.  "This year we have already had six new counties confirmed with EAB," said Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship EAB and gypsy moth coordinator Mike Kintner.  "I anticipate this number to only grow throughout 2017, passing last year's mark of 10 new county finds."

In Winneshiek County, crews have begun cutting down infected trees in Decorah.
