Doug Egeland Tiling of Ossian is being hired to demolish six Winneshiek County homes that were destroyed by last year's flooding.

The Winneshiek County Board on Monday approved a low bid of $21,000 per home for the work.  Doug Egeland Tiling will not only demolish the homes but will restore the property to its original state.

FEMA funds will cover 75 percent of the cost of the project, with the State of Iowa paying another 10 percent and Winneshiek County responsible for the remaining 15 percent.

The bid covers all seven homes identified by Winneshiek County as having been destroyed in the flooding, but only six of the homes are ready for demolition right now.
