Thursday morning was moving day for the garage south of St. Benedict's Church. St. Benedict's Church is planning a large addition to their current location and this is one of the first steps in that process.

Sam Beard purchased the garage for $1 from St. Benedict's Church. Sam and his family prepped the garage a couple days before they moved it. They cut down trees beforehand, cutting them into boards to help support the building when it was moved. Siding was removed from the bottom front and part of a middle divider of the garage to make room so it could slide onto a flatbed trailer. When the garage was finally secured with many cables and boards, it was jacked up and slid onto a flatbed trailer.

The garage took up both lanes of the road as it traveled out of town.  The Beards say they were thankful for the help they received from the police department and sheriff's office, which gave them an escort and provided traffic control. It took about one hour for a tractor to pull the flatbed trailer, traveling from St. Benedict's Church to its destination about 9 miles outside of Decorah.

The garage will make its new home out on Middle Sattre Road. Sam plans to convert it into a home for himself on his family's farm.

The next big move will be the house south of St. Benedict's Church, which is scheduled on April 26th. It will be moved to property on Highway 52, between Decorah and Calmar.
