The Raptor Resource Project is reporting the first hatch of an eagle egg this season.
Volunteers say they're not sure of the exact time the egg at Decorah North nest hatched, since it was windy and the mother eagle kept her wing over the newly hatched eaglet, but they estimate it was some time between 1:30 and 3:30 Wednesday afternoon.
Raptor Resource volunteers spotted the eaglet, as they posted, "when it was time for a shift change" between the mother and father eagle.
Hatches are expected soon at the eagle's nest near the Decorah Fish Hatchery as well. Both nests have three eggs.
