The Iowa Energy Center has awarded $37,600 to NICC to help the college to develop the "Energize Northeast Iowa Education" program.
The curriculum was developed by a partnership between NICC, Region 1 high schools and industry members. It covers a variety of topics designed to increase teachers' knowledge of energy conservation and renewable energy, giving them in-depth information that they can pass on to their students.
The first workshop for teachers covers the different forms of renewable energy, including solar energy, bioenergy, hydroelectricity, tidal power, wind energy, wave energy and geothermal processes. Additional sessions go into more specific detail on these same topics, including residential and commercial wind energy.
