Camp Tahigwa, which has served Girl Scouts from throughout Eastern Iowa, will close its doors to the public after Memorial Day this year.

In a little-publicized transaction, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois sold the property to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation in February.  INHF will hold on to the property until the Iowa DNR can purchase it.

The Lodge and the Staff House at Camp Tahigwa will remain available for groups to use through Memorial Day,  "The Friends of Camp Tahigwa," a group of supporters of the facility, will meet at Tahigwa on May 20th.

Staff members of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois have been retrieving memorabilia from the camp.  Many items have been returned to the appropriate people or their families. If you or someone you know has a connection to an item, contact Holly Bark at (800) 798-0833.

Sweeney Auction of Waukon has been hired to conduct a public auction at Camp Tahigwa near Dorchester at noon on Sunday.  The auction will be used to sell remaining buildings and items from the camp.
