Alliant Energy makes a pitch to remain the city's utility

While members of Decorah Power are making their pitch to become the city's municipal utility, Alliant Energy--the city's existing electricity supplier--is also making its case.

Alliant Director of Operations Brad Morgan has told Decorah City Council members that Alliant has been providing electricity to the community for 99 years.  "Many of the objectives" of the Decorah Power group are being met now by Alliant, he told city council members.

Alliant Energy employee Scott Kirkeberg says the utility has spent a lot of money over the years on capital improvements in Decorah and will be spending a lot of money in the near future on burying power lines to the new Fairfield Inn and Suites.

Alliant has 18 employees living in Decorah and over 20 retired employees.

A statement issued by Alliant about its Decorah operations is linked below.
