RSVP seeking volunteers who would work in case of a disaster

Posted: Mon, Mar 20, 2017 10:36 AM

Northeast Iowa RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is searching for volunteers age 55 plus who are interested in helping to operate a Volunteer Reception Center during a local Winneshiek County disaster.

The center would be activated by Winneshiek County Emergency Management and would be operated under the direction of RSVP staff.  RSVP volunteers would be responsible for registering volunteers, providing safety training and assigning the volunteers to a team before being sent out to a designated area to assist with the disaster.  Volunteers will also be responsible for answering a disaster hotline and may be asked to distribute supplies.

Northeast Iowa RSVP is holding an informational meeting about the program at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 30th, in the lower level meeting room at the Decorah Public Library.  Training for the actual operations of the Volunteer Reception Center will take place at a later date with refresher training at least once a year.  Please register for the informational meeting on March 30th by calling RSVP Director Kathy Barloon (563-277-5181) or RSVP Volunteer Coordinator Kim Toussaint (563-277-5180).  Please call even If you can't make the meeting but would like more information.
