RAGBRAI route will NOT pass through Ridgeway, Spillville and Calmar

The decision by RAGBRAI planners to include Decorah as a pass-through route from Cresco to Waukon on Friday, July 28th, is good news for Decorah, but means Ridgeway, Spillville and Calmar will be left out of the RAGBRAI route.

RAGBRAI officials had originally planned to detour around Decorah because Nordic Fest is going on that Friday.  But heavy lobbying by Decorah residents, business owners and civic officials changed the minds of RAGBRAI's organizers.

The new route will head straight east out of Cresco onto County A-34, Pole Line Road.  That means bike riders will miss Ridgeway.  After leaving Decorah, the route will head down Middle Calmar Road, County W-38, hitting US Highway 52 east of Calmar.  That means bike riders will miss Spillville and Calmar--although they will pass through Ossian, Castalia and Postville.
