Letter to the Editor: "Own it, Mike Breitbach"

(The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Winneshiek County Democratic Party Chair Matt Tapscott of Decorah in response to State Senator Mike Breitbach's comment that Senate File 2 did not lead to the decision to close the NEICAC Family Planning Clinic in Decorah):

"Dear Senator Breitbach, You can "spin it" any way that you would like, but the fact is you supported underfunding Public Schools and you voted to defund family planning statewide. What is your position on Governor Branstads privatization of Medicaid in Iowa?  That is a big factor in the closing of the Decorah (family planning) clinic. Our democracy, our government, is not a for-profit, private business; it exists to do together that which no individual(s) can do alone. That requires investments for the "common good" - not just the investments you favor of your ultraconservative ALEC and KOCH Brother funders. Your votes that negatively impact "the common good" role of our government have real working-people consequences. When you vote against us as you have, own it!"
