In his latest newsletter, State Senator Michael Breitbach of Strawberry Point discussed the pending closing of the NEICAC Family Planning Clinic in Decorah on June 30th.
Said Breitbach, "I have received many e-mails over the past several weeks stating that my support of Senate File 2 would cause the clinic to close. I would like the people of my district to please consider NEICAC Director Mary Ann Humpal's statement about the closing: "The program's financials are getting worse each year. As much as this clinic is needed and used by 600+ clients, we cannot compromise the financial stability of the entire agency for the clinic."
"I would also like them to consider the fact that Senate File 2 has not passed the House or been signed into law by the Governor. Senate File 2 has not cut any funding to the clinic."
Breitbach adds that there are efforts underway to help direct the users of the clinic to other providers. He concludes, "It is my opinion the clinic will be sorely missed by those who utilized their services."
