Decorah Middle School student Simon Kutz has won the school-wide National Geography Bee. Students in 5th through 8th grade participated in the bee, where they were given seven geography questions covering American states and countries around the world. The top students from each grade level competed against one another until there were two students left. Fifth grade student Simon Kutz took first place, while 5th grader Nat Roberts was the runner-up.
After winning the school-wide competition, Simon completed a written exam that was sent into the state to be scored. Simon recently found out he was 1 out of 100 students from across the state chosen to compete at the state meet in Cedar Falls on March 31st.
