In Decorah in February, the average temperature was above freezing--32.1 degrees.  Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz says the low temperature was greater than the historical average low for the day on 26 out of 28 days this February.  On 23 days, the high temperature was higher than the average high for the day.

So it's not surprising that the average temperature in February was a full 12 degrees higher than normal.  February 2017 also set two record highs and tied one record high in Decorah.

From November 1st through February 28th, temperatures during 2016-2017 were the 12th warmest out of the 124 years for which records have been kept, says Bernatz.
