The website homesnacks.net has finished analyzing 74 Iowa cities with a population greater than 5,000 and has declared Decorah the 8th safest city in the state.
The website analyzed the FBI's Uniform Crime Report, which summarizes the number of crimes in each city per year. It divided those statistics into three categories: violent crimes per capita (murders, assaults, rapes, and armed robberies); property crimes per capita (thefts, burglaries, motor vehicle thefts); and total crimes per capita.
Orange City ranked the safest, while Independence was the second safest city in Iowa.
