(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Janelle Pavlovec):
"Did you know that last week was National Kindness Week? It got me to thinking about my experience of a kindness by a stranger shortly before Christmas.
I was out on a slightly warmer day trying to remove the hardened snow from the sidewalk on the long side of my corner lot. I was about a third of the way finished when a young man walked up to me and said, "I live down the street. I was driving by when I saw you shoveling and said to myself, "That old lady* needs some help." He took my shovel out of my hands and started in. It is wonderful to see what young muscles can do. When he finished, I told him that he had given me the best Christmas present I could have gotten. I think I know his name, a freshman home from college, but I will not give it since I am not positive."
*Old lady--guess I cannot ignore what I am any longer--that makes it official. Seems not so long ago that I thought people the age I am now were not just old but actually ancient!"
