(Peggy Willie of Decorah has submitted the following Letter to the Edtior):
"Previously a parent wrote with concern for his child crossing at the Mechanic Street crosswalk by Carrie Lee School. This happens at a very busy time of the day. I believe drivers are more focused on the sign in the center of the street than looking to the sides to check for pedestrians.
What I would like to propose is removing that center sign and replacing it with the same solar-powered flashing signs that you can find on the biking trail in Freeport at the River Road crossing. They have a button-press activation that will flash bright lights when a pedestrian wants to cross. This would be easily seen at night also.
I feel it could save a life."
