(This Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Randy Haugen of Decorah):
"To State Senator Michael Breitbach and State Representative Michael Bergan--We heard what you had to say and the reasons you thought Iowa's laws governing contract negotiations by public employees needed to be changed. All you did was to take a play out of Scott Walker's and the Koch brothers' playbook and make it worse.
Since a lot of Iowans will sacrifice and make less money, such as teachers, police officers, many state and county workers, students, community college employees and more, can I ask you two what you gave up to sacrifice this state budget crisis that you created? You work part-time jobs and get a lot of benefits that most people do not. You get a nice health insurance package, from what I understand. So what did you to sacrifice? Can you in good faith and honesty answer this question?"
