Decorah Tree Board is considering bigger rebates for those replanting boulevard trees

Tree crews have been busy in February

Crews have been cutting down some of the ash trees in Decorah that have been killed by the Emerald Ash Borer.  35 trees are marked for removal this winter.

The City of Decorah has been paying property owners $35 per tree for replanting one or two trees in the boulevard.  Anyone 60 years old or older has been qualifying for up to two trees free of charge--so long as they cost $60 or less, with the property owner responsible for any additional cost above $60 per tree.

However, members of the Decorah Tree Board and other city officials have been discussing the possibility of higher financial incentives for property owners replanting trees--so the dead trees get replaced.  The Decorah City Council and Tree Board representatives will discuss the issue March 6th.
