The seven fire departments that cover Winneshiek County have "mutual aid" agreements that promise they will help their fellow firefighters if necessary. That's especially important with larger fires, including fires where Decorah's new aerial ladder fire truck would come in very handy.
So Winneshiek County Emergency Management Coordinator Sean Snyder has been working to line up training sessions for all county firefighters. Snyder says he's been able to schedule five different training sessions, starting with a March 21st training session at NICC Calmar. Firefighters should contact the Winneshiek County Emergency Government Office for more information.
Snyder also says he has arranged a training session for severe weather spotters. The National Weather Service La Crosse Office training will be held at the Ossian Fire Station on April 11th.
