The committee studying a possible community center in Decorah continues to work on the issue.  The group says it realizes many local small businesses provide fitness classes since there has been an absence of a community recreation center in Decorah. The committee is conscientious and supportive of all the local businesses and will continue to support those businesses while addressing the needs of our community and moving forward as community center ideas are pursued.

About 40 people attended the meeting last Thursday to discuss a possible community center in Decorah. Most everyone agreed that the community would be well served with a community recreation space. They noted that gym space is a necessity, and many other ideas could be included. Ideas that were mentioned include a walking track, weight/exercise machines, meeting spaces, childcare, and a pool. A steering committee is forming and it will address the needs and gaps so the community can be best served.

Seven committee members were able to tour the Onalaska YMCA on Friday. They checked out the facility and learned more about the various programs that were offered. They came to the conclusion that Onalaska is doing great things in its community for children, teens and adults through the YMCA.
