Property taxes would go up by a nickel under proposed City of Decorah FY '18 budget

A tentative budget put together by the Decorah City Council calls for 10.8 million dollars in spending in 2017-2018.

City council members added several spending items to the budget prepared by city administrators--two pickups, one tractor/mower, a toddler slide at the swimming pool and a study of space needs of city government.

Under the tentative budget, the tax rate would be set at $14.146 per $1,000 of assessed valuation--a 5 cent per $1,000 increase from this year's levy.

A public hearing on the proposed spending plan will be held March 6th at City Hall.
