With money tight in the State of Iowa budget, area school officials are meeting with their elected representatives to stress how important state aid to education is.

State Representative Michael Bergan of Decorah has had several visitors recently.  Decorah School Superintendent Michael Haluska and Decorah Principal Rick Varney, Turkey Valley School Board President Ernie Schmitt, School Board member Don Blazek and Superintendent Jay Jurrens all met recently with Bergan, as did MFL MarMac Superintendent Dale Crozier.

The state legislature is discussing a $40 million increase in state aid to local school districts for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
