Luther College professor of music Juan Tony Guzman was named The Weston Noble Endowed Chair in Music at the college's Spring Convocation on Thursday.

The Weston Noble Endowed Chair in Music is named in honor of Weston Noble, whose professional service of teaching, directing and conducting at Luther influenced the lives of thousands of students for over 50 years and whose dedication and service to the college also witnessed to the Gospel. The award recognizes the value of Christian higher education and the quality of the academic and music programs provided by Luther College.

Juan Tony Guzman is a sought-after conductor of all-state and honor choirs, concert bands, jazz bands, and symphony orchestras across the United States. He serves as a guest conductor and clinician at festivals all over the world and is known for his arrangements of Caribbean and Latin American music.

Guzman holds a doctorate in music education, a certificate of pedagogy of music theory, and a master's degree in music education from Florida State University. A 1990 graduate of Luther College, he also holds a degree in electromechanical engineering from the Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
