Overall, temperatures averaged 21.6 degrees, which was five and a half degrees warmer than the January average. Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz says there were eleven days in January in which the low temperature was higher than the average high temperature for that day.
Because of the higher than average temperatures, there were four days with measurable snowfall--but another four days when the precipitation came in the form of rain instead of snow. Precipitation totaled 2.38 inches in January--1.35 inches more than the January average.
