Iowa Commission on Volunteer Services wants to help people volunteer

Posted: Wed, Feb 1, 2017 9:34 AM

Representatives from the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service in Des Moines will be visiting Northeast Iowa on Thursday to talk about volunteerism in rural communities.

In an effort to put more focus on rural communities, the representatives would like to meet with a variety of individuals to discuss issues that are unique to non-profit agencies and potential volunteers or volunteers in rural Northeast Iowa. They want to learn about programs in Northeast Iowa and their needs, as well as provide information about what the Iowa Commission can do in rural communities. Representatives will provide information on a planning grant that may be available to help agencies decide if they would like to take the next step towards creating a strong volunteer program for people of all ages.

The meeting will be held on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the lower level meeting room of the Decorah Public Library. It is open to anyone who has an interest in volunteerism in Northeast Iowa. Your contribution on issues that affect rural agencies and volunteers will provide important feedback for future opportunities.

If you have questions about the program, please contact Michelle Raymer, Program Officer for Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service at   1-800-308-5987.
