State Senator Michael Breitbach of Strawberry Point says the writer of a Letter to the Editor to decorahnews.com (http://www.decorahnews.com/news-stories/2017/01/15553.html) got it wrong last week. The letter claimed the purpose of Senate File #2 is to eliminate the Iowa Family Planning Network Waiver, which helps low income men and women pay for their services at these clinics, including at the Family Planning Clinic in Decorah.
Says Breitbach, "What the letter writer failed to note was that Senate File #2 also says the state shall instead establish a state-run family planning service and that it will replicate the eligibility requirements and other provisions included in the Medicaid family planning network waiver."

Breitbach's staff has checked with state officials, who confirm the new legislation would not have an effect on funding for NEICAC Health Services Clinic, the local Family Planning Clinic in Decorah.
He concludes, "I have received several letters and phone calls in regards to SF 2 and wanted to reassure people in the Decorah area who rely on the services provided by NEICAC that this bill will not cause the closing of your clinic."
